Thomas Gottschalk is a German radio and television host and entertainer. He was born in Bamberg, Germany, on May 18, 1950. After growing up and spending his teenage years in the Franconian province, he started his career at the publicly financed Bavarian media network (Bayerischer Rundfunk). He had his breakthrough success in the late night program of ZDF, a large German TV channel, with the show “Na so was!”.
In 1987, he took over as moderator of “Wetten dass”, the flagship and most popular entertainment show in German television. The show served as basis for the American TV show “Wanna bet?”. He moderated 151 shows until 2011 and welcomed many international guests and stars, among them various celebrities from the U.S.
He is the only German moderator who has worked for all major German networks. Mr. Gottschalk lives in Malibu, California.
