General Hayden served as the director of CIA, the National Security Agency (NSA), and the country’s first Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence. His national service included almost 40 years in the U.S. Air Force. Earlier, he served as Commander of the Air Intelligence Agency, Director of the Joint Command and Control Warfare Center, and Chief of the Central Security Service.
He has received many major awards and decorations, including the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, a Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, an Air Force Commendation Medal and an Air Force Achievement Medal.
General Hayden graduated from Duquesne University with a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in modern American history. He also did postgraduate work at the Defense Intelligence School. He is currently a Distinguished Visiting Professor at George Mason University.
